The Boy and I on a fall afternoon, making cookies, playing Play Dough, cutting, gluing, puzzling and playing with paper airplanes. Oui, la vie est belle.
My boy at soccer practice last night. He’s getting pretty good and seems to grasp the concept of staying back on defense after he’s helped clear the ball. The two big things we need to work on are accepting the fact that he is going to get kicked, knocked down and maybe even accidentally hit. He got roughed up last night and cried, but his coach calmed him down and during a water break, I talked to him about being tough and playing through those things.
The other thing we need to work on is patience. He played goalie last night and made a nice save and then cleared the ball. But he gave up a goal after one of the other team’s players (it was just a scrimmage) broke through the defense all by himself and kicked one past him. He got upset with himself and started getting frustrated by pumping his arms and saying, “SHOOT!”
To be honest, I like the competitive nature, but we need to work with him to stay calm and keep his head in the game. It’s only his third practice, so it’ll come. He’s already improved his game by leaps and bounds, especially with some extra practice at home - at his request. Kid LOVES soccer.

My Son’s First Day of School
I know there’s nothing I can do to stop him from growing up. No matter how old he is, how tall he gets, he will always be my little boy.
What joy fatherhood must be. Thanks for calling.
Thanks to onehelloworld for this beautifully done soundtrack to a moment in our lives. This absolutely made my day!
My son on the practice green for the first time. It was his first ever trip to a golf course and the first time he’s putted on a real green.
