Me, Her, the Boy and a Dog

The adventures of me, her, my boy and our dog as we navigate life in a crazy world. We love the outdoors, sports, reading, playing, and of course, the Virginia Tech Hokies and the William & Mary Tribe.

Also, I founded the GoFightWinVT Tumblr, so if you're a Hokie, give it a follow. And, feel free to check out my Project 365 Tumblr.

With the crazy stuff Palin says, it’s almost hard to distinguish the difference between Tina Fey mocking Saah Palin and Sarah Palin actually being Sarah Palin.

I don’t understand why we, or anyone, for that matter, should give a shit that the White House played host to a Halloween party for children of military personnel, paid for by director Tim Burton and hosted by Johnny Depp.

Unless what right-wingers are saying is “fuck off, children of soldiers.”

So let me get this straight… Some 1 percenters are mad at other 1 percenters for spending their money on Halloween parties for the children of soldiers (aka the 99 percent). How dare the nice 1 percenters do something for others!

John Boehner is disappoint.

Best line from MTP host David Gregory: “When you fall below journalists, you’re doing something wrong.” (Yes, he was kidding… but still.)

There is no question that Mr. [John] Stewart is going to hell.

Fox News Anchor Bill O’Reilly

I forgot that a mere mortal on this planet has an “in” with God and knows, without a shadow of a doubt, who is and is not going to hell.

Interesting perspective. True.

You know that Congressional Super Committee that was supposed to come up with $1.2 trillion in federal spending cuts by next week or have automatic cuts kick in? Yeah, it’s all a bunch of BS. Why? See below…

Since Congress made the law governing the sequester, it can also amend or repeal it, as some lawmakers are suggesting.

Soooooo basically, if Congress - which has an approval rating of 9 percent - doesn’t make these cuts, they can just rewrite the law or the deadline.

Here’s my proposal … oust every member of Congress right now and start over. Anyone wanting to run for congress cannot have served in any political office before. Do not allow corporate donations (i.e. bribes and payoffs) in political campaigns, and apply a two-term limit.

Career politicians and their corporate bed buddies are killing this country with rampant corruption. And the really sad part is, they don’t give a shit. Their approval rating is just 9 percent, the lowest in U.S. history (since they’ve been tracking such a thing) and they just keep doing whatever the hell they want.

Yesterday we did a historic thing. We generated 87,834 phone calls to U.S. Representatives in a concerted effort to protect the Internet. Extraordinary. There’s no doubt that we’ve been heard.

So just to keep you updated: The well-intentioned, but immensely flawed “Stop Online Piracy Act” is still in the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing was yesterday and now members will debate and bring amendments to the bill. The Committee will reconvene in a few weeks — the date has yet to be scheduled. Nothing has been brought to a final vote. Everything is still very much in play. We’ll keep you posted on what’s going on and what you can do to help. But for now, we want to thank you.

One encouraging thing we heard yesterday:

I don’t believe this bill has any chance on the House floor. I think it’s way too extreme, it infringes on too many areas that our leadership will know is simply too dangerous to do in its current form.

— Representative Darrell Issa

We also want to express our tremendous gratitude to our friends at Mobile Commons who, on 30 minutes notice, hooked us up with their amazing platform (and provided their expertise) to automatically connect callers with their Representatives.

Awesome sauce.

Yep.

Completely out of touch with reality. But it makes sense, because sailing is primarily a “job creator” sporting event.
