Since @briancolligan went out on a limb to admit that he digs this song, I figured I should back him up. I watched this performance live from the 2011 ACM Awards and thought it was really good. So yeah, I’m not (entirely) embarrassed to admit that I like it.

Blue grass music gets a swift kick in the ass. Love this song by Trampled by Turtles. My friend Ryan clued me in on these guys.
Blind Melon - No Rain (1992)
Wait. WHAT? This song is almost 20 years old? When the hell did THAT happen? Is it me or is everyone and everything around me getting older?
I still love this song. And if you’ve never heard their rendition of “Three is the Magic Number,” from School House Rock, give it a listen.
Blind Melon frontman Shannon Hoon died in October 1995 of a drug overdose. Seven months later, Sublime’s lead singer Bradley Nowell met a similar fate. Of course, the biggest blow to the alternative rock scene in the mid 1990s was obviously the suicide of Nirvana’s Kurt Kobain in April 1994.
These were my college years and these were three of my favorite bands at the time. For me, it de-glamorized the rock and roll lifestyle. I liked the music they produced, but couldn’t understand why anyone would want to live that life.
While I don’t listen to much modern music, I still have Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Blind Melon, Candle Box, Seven Mary Three, Sound Garden and Temple of the Dog firmly in my “classic alt rock” rotation.
Yep, it’s official. I’m getting old.
When Stone Temple Pilots burst onto the music scene in 1993 with their debut album “Core,” many people said they sounded like Pearl Jam, which is complete nonsense. What still gets me is that music “critics” killed STP, voting them the worst new band in 1993, while at the same time, music lovers voted them the best new band.
