Hans Zimmer, Blake Neely & Geoff Zanelli
“Honor” (Main Theme)
The Pacific (2010)When TV does it right, it matches the best of what’s on the silver screen. HBO spared no expense in creating this ten-part miniseries from executive producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, bringing aboard composer Hans Zimmer - along with collaborators Geoff Zanelli and Blake Neely - to write the stirring, inspiring score, one fitting for the subject at hand.Never fails to put a lump in my throat, and worth a listen today.
I enjoyed The Pacific, but it paled in comparison to Band of Brothers. Not from a production standpoint, but from a character standpoint. I didn’t feel the acting was as strong and I never connected with the characters and their stories in The Pacific like I did with Band of Brothers. Regardless, it was a wonderfully done series about often forgotten about soldiers in World War II.
I’ve heard the hype about Spotify and thought I’ve tried and been disappointed by Pandora, Rhapsody and some other sites I can’t even remember, I’m willing to give this a try if someone out there is willing to give share an invite!

Chicken Fried - Zach Brown Band
I thank god for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring.
Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives so we don’t have to sacrifice
All the things we love
Like our chicken friedCold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I’ve seen the sun rise
See the love in my woman’s eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother’s loveHope you all are having a fabulous 4th!

Blind Melon “No Rain”
For real: no rain on 4th of July weekend, please!
Love this song!
Thanks to @deliriousreality, I’ve discovered a new band that I like - Mumford and Sons. If it weren’t for Tumblr, I’d probably be as out of touch with modern music as my father. Love ya, Pop!
FYI - This is not the radio edit version. There is an f-bomb in here, so if you listen to this at work, plug in the headphones depending on your office environment.
I can’t remember what year it was, but during my college days at Virginia Tech (93-97), I went to see The Connells in concert at Burruss Hall. They were a regional band based in North Carolina. Their sound was a bit mellow, at least on their studio recordings, but they made their name and gained popularity for their high energy concerts.
I liked them before seeing them live, but I was an even bigger fan after that show. If you’ve never listened to their music and this song, Slackjawed - off of their 1993 album “Ring” - is your introduction to the band, it might surprise you to know that there were mosh pits at their concerts. As I said, their strength was live concerts, not studio recordings, though I still enjoy their albums.
If you like this song, check out ‘74-‘75 from the same 1993 album.
My most recent post for the Tumblr 4dadsabout2rock.
