Me, Her, the Boy and a Dog

The adventures of me, her, my boy and our dog as we navigate life in a crazy world. We love the outdoors, sports, reading, playing, and of course, the Virginia Tech Hokies and the William & Mary Tribe.

Also, I founded the GoFightWinVT Tumblr, so if you're a Hokie, give it a follow. And, feel free to check out my Project 365 Tumblr.

Well played, Google.

The information below was posted this morning on Matt Cutt’s Google+ profile:

This is important: Google has been able to detect a large number of computers infected with a specific piece of malware. If you go to Google and do a search (any word will do) right now, check to see whether you get a “Your computer appears to be infected” warning at the top of the search results. If you see the message, you need to clean up the infection from your machine.

We’re trying this as an experiment to alert and protect consumers that we believe have infected machines. Please share this widely.

Below is a screenshot of what you are likely to see if your Windows computer (Mac is not affected according to Google) is infected with the malware:

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I even made that face.

LOL! Yeah right. If I were going to drop $499 on a lightweight, portable computing device, it sure as heck isn’t going to be Google’s Chrome Notebook. Please. This is just sad. Oh, but wait, it comes with a whopping 100MB a month … yes, PER month … of mobile broadband service. I do that in a day.
Nice try Google and Samsung, but once again, you FAIL. I’d much rather spend that kind of dough on an iPad 2.

If you use an Android-powered smartphone or tablet, you might want to read this article. Apparently a publisher installed some malicious code into some already-approved apps and when people updated their apps, the code started rooting through their phones pulling information and even listening for credit card numbers, etc.

According to the article, Google - which runs the Android Market - has already pulled the offending apps and banned the publisher. But, the code is still out there, so if you have any of the apps listed on this site, uninstall them ASAP.

Can we get an amen?

A really great video from Google employees. Bravo.

For anyone who has ever felt alone, please know that there are people out there waiting to meet you with open hearts and minds. High School is such a judgemental time - people are still immature, awkward, trying to grow up, hormones are raging, and cliques don’t help. In college, I would return to visit my High School sometimes as a Lincoln-Douglas debate judge (I know.. can we say NERD ALERT?) and I would always tell everyone that in college nobody cares if you’re popular - everyone is pretty much friends with everyone.

My freshman year of college I was friends with everyone on my hall. Sure we had our quirks but nobody refused to be friends with anyone because they weren’t “popular” or what have you. For me, I felt more respected as an individual not based on who I was friends with or what sports I played.

Beyond college, in Med school and in the “real world,” I also find that to be true. Yes, there will always be the occasional asshole that you will cross paths with, but by then, the happiness and support you have from the people who are a part of your life will far outweigh any encounters you may have with “a bad apple.”

No matter what, please never forget that there are friends waiting to meet you.
