The whole fashion industry is a joke if this passes for “fashion.” Seriously? Who are these nut jobs?
My Tumblr friend marryanne asked, “What’s up with your beef against skinny jeans? Just curious, that’s all.”
Skinny jeans rank right up there with Uggs and the “new” fad, Roman style sandals. I realize that fashion comes and goes, but to me, it seems fashion is not so much driven by common sense and what actually looks good, but instead by what a select few (designers, celebrities, etc.) tell us what looks good, even when it doesn’t.
Girls in Uggs, no matter how hot they (girls) are, look completely ridiculous. And I’m not alone in that sentiment. With regards to skinny jeans - 1) if you are already skinny, they make you look skinnier, which is not a good thing, contrary to what the fashion magazines say, and 2) if you are not skinny, skinny jeans do not make you look any skinnier. In fact, they have quite the opposite effect.
I concede that all this could just be that I’m getting older, but even some of my younger friends (mid 20s) tend to agree with me on a lot of these fashion-related pet peeves.
To each their own, I say. I know a lot of guys love a girl in skinny jeans. I don’t see it, but then again, they probably don’t get why I’d prefer a cute girl in tennis shoes, shorts and a t-shirt, with her hair in a pony tail. To me, that’s sexy. So, it’s really just a matter of personal opinion.
Bottom line - I think people should wear what they want and what they feel comfortable with. I know younger people probably mock my conservative style of attire, but that’s fine with me. My days of riding the latest fashion trends are over. ;)
