Me, Her, the Boy and a Dog

The adventures of me, her, my boy and our dog as we navigate life in a crazy world. We love the outdoors, sports, reading, playing, and of course, the Virginia Tech Hokies and the William & Mary Tribe.

Also, I founded the GoFightWinVT Tumblr, so if you're a Hokie, give it a follow. And, feel free to check out my Project 365 Tumblr.

  • Me (to a just-waking-up 6-year-old who strategically places his stuffed animals at posts throughout his room): Hey Buddy, I don't know if you noticed, but Fluffy must've opened the drawer he was in last night - I see him peaking out.
  • Boy (popping straight up out of bed): ...
  • Boy (relaxing and smiling): Oh, it's OK. He's a "terrific kid" so he's allowed.
  • Me: Oh is that so?
  • Boy (flopping back down in bed): Yes sir.
  • Boy: OK, dad, it's your turn. I'll count to 20 because you're old.
  • Her: (Laughing uncontrollably)
  • Me: Bring it on, junior!
  • Coworker: Hi Greg! How are you?
  • Me: Uh. Hi. Fine. You?
  • Coworker: Good, thanks!
  • Me (to myself): Who the hell is Greg?
  • Sales rep: What did you say your name was?
  • Me: Gary.
  • Sale rep: Dillan?
  • Me: (face palm)
  • Coworker: Can you send the pictures you e-mailed to me to [other coworker] to print out?
  • Me: Or, you could just forward the e-mail with the pictures in it to [other coworker].
  • Coworker: But won't the images lose quality every time you e-mail them?
  • Me: ...
  • Me: Um, no. They're digital images, they don't degrade when you e-mail them.
  • Coworker: Oh! That's good to know! Yay!
  • Her: Man, this TV is small. [Referring to the small flat-screen in our bedroom that we rarely use.]
  • Me: Well, I guess that means we'll have to move the 37-inch HDTV from the living room to the bedroom and go get a bigger HDTV for the living room.
  • Her: Yeah. That ain't happenin' any time soon.
  • Me: Hey, you brought it up. I merely offered a solution.
  • Her: ...
  • Her: You're stupid.
  • Me: And yet you love me any way.
  • Me (carrying him): I love my little boy!
  • My boy: I love you, too, daddy!
  • Me: You're getting bigger, buddy. Someday you won't be my little boy any more.
  • My boy (touching my face): But dad, I'll always be your little boy.
  • Me (smiling): Yeah, buddy, you always will be.
  • Me (at 0613): Honey... (not completely awake)
  • Ginger: Mmmm... what? (somewhat annoyed)
  • Me: The alarm didn't go off and it says its Saturday.
  • Ginger: It IS Saturday.
  • Me: Oh, I thought it was Friday.
  • Ginger: Zzzzzzz.
  • Me (to myself): I'm so gonna need a nap this afternoon.
  • Nic: Dadda, you don't get to see me as much as mommy does, do you?
  • Me: No, buddy, I don't.
  • Nic: Does that make you sad?
  • Me: ...Well, buddy, yes. I miss you when you're not with me, but I always love you no matter where you are and I am thankful that I get to see you as much as I do because there are a lot of daddies out there that don't get to see their little boys very much.
  • Nic: Dadda...
  • Me: Yes, buddy?
  • Nic: I love you! (reaches to hug me)
  • Me: ...(smiling and eyes welling up)
