I heard this on NPR this morning and wanted to share it with my friends and family who deal with surly, moody, apathetic and uncooperative teenagers.
NPR is pretty exercised about a study showing greater risk of death by cardiovascular disease if you sit for extended periods of time.
Men who reported more than 23 hours a week of sedentary activity had a 64 percent greater risk of dying from heart disease than those who reported less than…
Still makes me want one of those desk treadmills!
I heard this story on NPR this morning and immediately wanted a standing desk. Also, when I got to work, I knew I had to take photos today around campus, so I decided to walk from my office to get the photos I needed. I walked nearly three miles. I hear stories like these and I miss working as a reporter when I was NEVER in the office.

A very interesting interview with two of the three Beastie Boys (the third is undergoing cancer treatment). It’s interesting and somewhat surreal to see “rappers” from my generation well into middle age. Still diggin’ their tunes, though.

This is awesome. A Florida couple successfully foreclosed on Bank of American branch after the bank tried to foreclose on the couple, which didn’t even have a mortgage with BOA. Here’s the NPR story from June 6: http://nrv.me/ptOHiH

Today’s MUST HEAR radio: StoryCorps
Dennis Apple and his wife Buelah came to StoryCorps to talk about their son, Denny. Nearly 21 years ago, Denny came down with mononucleosis. Before going to bed one night, he took some medicine, and talked about where he wanted to sleep.
Listen to this and then go hug/call your family and tell them you love them.
The old school. (Taken with Instagram at KHSU Studios)
kicking it old school.
Boys and girls, I may be showing my age, but this machine, called a reel-to-reel, is what I learned to edit on when I got my first gig in radio back in [REDACTED].
I began my broadcast journalism career at WHRV 89.5 in the Tidewater area. I cohosted a show called Studio E. We used carts (kinda like 8 tracks) and even vinyl records.
WHRV is a National Public Radio affiliate, which probably explains why I have an affinity toward and support NPR to this day.
So, following up on yesterday’s reblog of an NPR post, here’s a 20-year-old photo of me at my first broadcast radio gig. I’m in the newsroom getting ready to do some reads. Sweet sassy molassy, where have all these years gone?
