Me, Her, the Boy and a Dog

For those that don’t know, I run a Virginia Tech football fan site that is pretty successful, at least by my standards. Running a Web site that covers a topic like college football in which you find extremely passionate fans, you always runs the risk of tempers flaring on the comment boards and fans sniping back and forth at each other, or even at the owner of the site.

Such was the case with one Hokie fan who goes by ”Jeff Jeff Jeff” (apprently he’s related to Tony, Toni, Tone) decided that the highlights from the Boston College game showed entirely too many clips of Boston College. Here is Jeff Jeff Jeff’s comment regarding the highlights:

There are more highlights of BC plays than VT plays.. Why is that? Tyrod had 110 yards rushing, I only saw a couple of his runs.. I saw all of BC’s touchdowns.. Why don’t you change the title to, Boston College Game Highlights.. Or ORRR, better yet, why don’t you change the site to http://WWW.BCeagleFANS.COM! Then you can blog about how much you love Jeff JAGOZKINSKI!! This is shit, change it!

Sorry about the swear word there at the end, but I needed to leave it in there to emphasize my point. I don’t appreciate swearing on my site and I generally give posters a warning after their first offense, unless they drop some serious swearage on their first post, such as the F bomb. That is grounds for automatic removal of the comment and an e-mail from me warning them that a second offense will result in a lifetime ban from posting on the site.

Sometimes, however, when someone such as Jeff Jeff Jeff makes a complete arse out of himself for the whole world to see, I like to lay the smack down in the same public forum. The following was my reply to JJJ:

Hey genius - watch it again. Fourteen (14) Virginia Tech highlights and just five Boston College highlights.

Change it? Oh, I’m sorry … do you run this blog? No, wait, I DO. In case you missed it, Boston College scored FOUR touchdowns. Virginia Tech scored two. Tech had a season low 240 yards of offense and couldn’t run or pass. It was their WORST game of the season. I showed both Tech TDs and all three field goals, a blocked kick, a big TT run and a decent pass.

The next time you want to talk smack on this site, you’d better get your facts straight. I know you’re not happy about the loss, but don’t bring that crap here junior.

One more thing - the next tim you swear on my site - you WILL be banned.

Ah, see, I feel better now, don’t you? The great thing about NOT working for a media outlet like a TV station or newspaper is that I AM the editorial control and I can handle these situations as I see fit.

To quote legendary high school football coach Herman Boone, “This is not a democracy. This is dictatorship.” Well, I don’t know if Coach Boone actually said those words, but Denzel Washington, who played Coach Boone in the movie Remember the Titans, said it … so it must be true, right?
