Kudos to the Tumblr Development Team
Once again, Tumblr and its team of developers has delivered! For starters, video and photo submissions now include a post title in the meta title of each page. Confused? Let me try to explain…
I don’t know if this was a direct result of my suggestion, but last month I sent some SEO-related ideas to Marc and he responded quickly via e-mail that he appreciated the feedback and had forwarded them on to the dev team. One of my suggestions was to include a “post title” field for non-text posts such as photos, videos and audio.
In the past, if you posted a picture, that particular blog post would not display the title of the post in the browser bar at the top. For example, my Web site title is “Nic and Daddy” and when I publish a text post, the title bar of the browser reads “Nic and Daddy | Name of the Post”. But, with a photo or video, the title bar of the browser would only display the title of the entire site, “Nic and Daddy | “, with nothing after it. This is a problem for bloggers, er, Tumblrs that are keen on search engine optimization.
Search engines place a lot of emphasis on the title of each page - it’s like a headline for the search engines. So, even though I had a lot of cool photos and videos throughout my blog, they probably weren’t showing up in the search engine results because there weren’t any descriptive keywords in the title of the page. Not any more!
I recently noticed that the captions I provide for my videos and photos are appearing in the titles of their permalinked URLs - sweet! Kudos to the Tumblr development team. I love it when an SEO plan comes together!
