what are you up to october 30th?
i’m going to head downtown for a VERY SERIOUS RALLY.
although i’m not sure whose side i’ll be on…
Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert plan dueling rallies on the Washington mall on Oct. 30.
The announcement follows the August rally by Glenn Beck, target of both comedians’ satire, in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
Stewart, who announced his plans on The Daily Show Thursday night, calls his gathering the “Rally to Restore Sanity,” saying “Think of our event as Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement.”
Colbert, host of The Colbert Report, had vowed to out-rally Stewart with his own announcement, and is calling his gathering the “March to Keep Fear Alive.”
Throwing down the gauntlet at Stewart, Colbert says, “They want to replace our Fear with reason. But never forget — “Reason” is just one letter away from “Treason.” Coincidence? Reasonable people would say it is, but America can’t afford to take that chance.”
