Disney-Pixar Created Up and It was Good
We went to see Disney-Pixar’s latest hit “Up” yesterday at The Lyric in downtown Blacksburg and it was really good. Nic enjoyed it for the brilliant animation, slapstick humor and the talking dogs, while the adults in the theatre enjoyed the jokes to which only adults can relate - such as when Carl Frederickson tells Russell, a young Junior Wilderness Explorer, that they’re...

According to our IT team and several security-related blogs, a fraudulent e-mail claiming to be from Microsoft notifies users of a security patch for Outlook or Outlook Express. The e-mail contains the article number KB910721.

My Golfing Buddy, My Friend, My Dad.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there who take the time to be an important part of the lives of their children! And a special Happy Father’s Day to my dad, Billy, who helped me become the man - and father - I am today.
As I grow older (and hopefully wiser) I realize more and more how much my parents truly loved me growing up. I know they still do, but raising kids isn’t...

The Power of the the (Social) Media Forces Policy...
Earlier this week I saw an article on CNETNews.com about the city of Bozeman, Montana and how it requires job applicants to hand over the user names and passwords to their social networking sites and other internet-based sites like Facebook, MySpace, Google and Yahoo, so the city could do a complete and thorough background check. This practice has been in place with the city of Bozeman for several...

Finally Got the Car Fixed
For the last several months, my car has been making a pretty loud sound. Naturally I was concerned, but considering I was out of work at the time, what could I do about it? I didn’t have the money to get it fixed. Finally, in March, though I was still without a full time job, I had done enough free lance work to take the car in to the shop.
I normally go to South Main Auto in Blacksburg....

There was a coconut on my doorstep...
Well, go ahead and add another event to my “that’s a first” list. A coconut came in the mail today. Seriously. There was a coconut on my doorstep when I got home today with Nic. No box. No wrapping. Just a coconut with a USPS Priority Mail sticker stuck on it. I had no idea you could mail … a coconut without a box.
Who sent this coconut? Well, it was Ginger! She is...

Nationals Draft Over-hyped Pitcher with $50...
Usually having the No. 1 pick in any professional sports draft is a good thing, but that might not be the case for the Washington Nationals. The team selected San Diego State pitcher Stephen Strasburg with the top pick in the Major League Baseball draft this week and already, reports are stirring that Strasburg’s agent, Scott Boras, has stated that it will take $50 million in guaranteed...
Twitter to the rescue
toddwickersty:
My trip home from New York on Saturday was delayed due to a power outage in Penn Station. There I was sitting in a dark train waiting to hear the next update over the loud speaker. What was I thinking? I whipped out my iPhone, opened my favorite twitter app (Tweetie), and searched on Penn Station. Within seconds, I became aware of a transformer fire in the station that knocked out...
