Rest In Peace "Maw Maw" Cope
This afternoon my Grandma Cope (Maw Maw) passed away. She was 92 years old. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known and we will miss her very much! Paw Paw Cope passed away in June 1994 and my Aunt passed away in January 2004. Tonight, they will be reunited with the matriarch of our family. The photo below was taken last summer when Nicholas and I visited her in Tennessee. I am so...

The Daily Show Mocks Fox News' Mockings
I mentioned on Twitter during President Obama’s State of the Nation address earlier this week that I switched from Hulu’s Internet broadcast to CNN’s mainly because Hulu was having some streaming issues. However, they were streaming Fox News Channel’s version and I can’t stand Fox News and their warped and misguided brand of “journalism” though as a...

The Challenges of Being Human
Don’t get me wrong, I love being human. But, there are a lot of things about being human that, let’s be honest, suck. I know we as a species can’t pick and choose the best parts of being a human. It’s not like we’re ordering a car or a pizza and you just add the stuff you like - we get what we get and we just have to make do. That doesn’t mean we always have to...

A Case of Mistaken Texting Identity
I’m sitting at my computer working on some projects for CWI Media & Marketing when I get a text message. I open it up to find the following: “so why u calling me a slut? u dont know me. you dont have the right to talk your [expletive deleted]. keep my name off ur [expletive deleted] lips.” I was floored. For starters, I do not recognize the phone number. Never mind the fact...

Introducing My Band, Hieracium Canadense
Okay, so I don’t actually have a band. This was just a cool little creative exercise on Facebook, but you can play along, too. It goes a little something like this… What would your own album look like if you were in a band? Follow the directions below and find out… Here are the rules: Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random… Read more” or click...

Flashback to the Music I Discovered in 1995
A Facebook friend posted a video of the lovely Joan Osborne singing the Motown classic “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted” by Jimmy Ruffin. That got me reminiscing about the first time I heard of Joan Osborne way back in 1995 as an intern at Richmond’s top rock station, WRXL, 102.1. During my sophomore year at Virginia Tech I applied for one of 12 Virginia Association of...

Turns Out Ethanol-Enhanced Gas Is Not Good for My...
About three months ago, my “check engine” light came on right as the odometer hit the 140,000 mile mark. So, I figured it was just a preprogrammed routine “check engine” light. Then, about a month later, the car started getting louder and louder. No loss of power, just loud and then some vibrations, especially at higher speeds. I was fearing the worst, but since I lost my...

VT No. 5 in Mark Schlabach Preseason Top 25 →
Wow! I certainly hope we have Top 5 quality team next season. I think the potential is certainly there, it’s just a matter of can the coach and players get on the same page and put it all together. We shall see.

Finally, A Cool Kid's Meal 'Toy'
If you have kids, chances are pretty good that you’ve been to a fast food restaurant and gotten a kid’s meal of some kind. Usually, these meals come with a toy to entertain the kids. And in most, if not all cases, these toys are cheap and might last the meal. Nic and I went to Chi-Fil-A some time ago and the kid’s meal there was some type of insect 3D puzzle, but I didn’t...

My Favorite Non-Super Bowl TV Ad
Though it officially did not appear on the list of ads that aired during the Super Bowl, this E*Trade commercial would have actually been my number one choice. Hilarious!

My Top Five Favorite Super Bowl Commercials
Okay, after much deliberation I have chosen my top five Super Bowl ads for 2009, and one honorable mention. Honorable Mention Teleflora.com - Talking Flowers This one was kind of harsh, but very effective! While it doesn’t name ProFlowers.com specifically, it is clearly taking aim at the popular online florist which ships its flowers in boxes via FedEx. I have used ProFlowers and while it...
