The Origins of the Word "Shit"
I wish I could take credit for this research and article, but it actually appeared in my company’s employee newsletter back in the 90s. Surprisingly, it was written by one of our executives at the time. He has a quirky sense of humor and this is one of my favorites. Enjoy!
In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything was transported by ship. It was also before commercial fertilizer’s...

Take Broken and Used CFLs to Home Depot to Recycle →
This is something that I had not actually thought about when I replaced nearly 30 bulbs at my old house an then 17 bulbs at my new place. Though the new energy efficient bulbs do last 5-7 years, they will eventually burn out and when they do, DO NOT THROW THEM AWAY! You have to recycle them because they have mercury in them. This blog explains in more detail.

I started following this Starbucks Barista blog a couple of weeks ago, being the Starbucks junkie that I am.It is one of the funniest blogs I’ve followed in a long time and I highly recommend it if you, too, are addicted to the SB and its tasty beverages!

Musical Artists I Just Don't Get
Apparently there’s something wrong with me. At birth, there must have been a mutation of some gene, or lack of a chemical, or a damaged synapses that has left me without the ability to understand why some people feel that certain musical artists are “geniuses” or “brilliant.”
Here are three artists that I just don’t get. I don’t understand what all the...

NFL to monitor players for use of gang signs →
This is somewhat shocking, but not really. I could take this discussion in a million different directions, but what good would it do? This is the era in which we live. An era that features multi-millioinaire athletes flashing gang signs during games. I think any player caught using gang signs should be banned from the NFL permanently.
Awwwww yeah! It’s Guitar Hero time! I turn this mutha out at SES NYC!
At home and bored … anyone for a game of Wii tennis or bowling? No? Well, I guess I could do dishes … boooooooring!
Remembering Kassidy Foster
One year ago today Kassidy Foster, the 12-year-old niece of one of my friends at work, died of cancer. Kassidy was an active, energetic and sweet kid who touched the lives of everyone she met. I am still amazed by the strength of her parents, family and friends and I continue to pray for them. Below is a message that the family posted on their Web site. Please take a couple of minutes to read it,...

Who is the bigger dork?
On my way to work this morning, I saw a license plate that read “PADAWAN” and actually said out loud, “What a dork!” Then about half a second later I realized that just for knowing what the license plate meant relegated me to dork status, too. For those non-dorks out there, Padawan, is a Star Wars reference to a Jedi in training. I’d elaborate, but I think I’ve...
Barenaked Ladies Frontman Arrested on Cocaine...
Ya know, it just freakin’ figures. I just bought the BNL’s debut kids CD for my son and now I read about the frontman Steven Page being arrested for cocaine possession. I’m just glad my son isn’t old enough to ask the tough questions yet.
Said Goodbye to My Spacious Office in Roanoke...
I finally packed up and moved the rest of my stuff from my nice, spacious office in Roanoke today. It was bittersweet. Our team was moved back to Blacksburg a couple of months ago, which means I’m saving a couple hundred bucks a month in gas every month, especially since I’ve moved to Blacksburg. I now live five miles from my office as opposed to 62 miles. You don’t need to be a...
Think you are having a bad day?
I’m sure many of you have received this e-mail, but I thought I’d pass it along just in case you haven’t. We all have had bad days at the office, but the next time you think your day is sucking, remember this *true story. I LOVE MY JOB If you don’t laugh out loud after you read this you are in a coma! This is even funnier when you realize it’s real! Next time you have...

7.14.2008 | There's been a breakthrough!

7.14.2008 | A Review - Kite Runner
I recently read the book “Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini. The book is a true story that follows a Khaled from his early childhood through today. It takes place before, during and after the fall of Afghanistan in the 70s when the Russian Army invaded. It continues on through the explusion of the communist power, which was replaced by the even more oppressive and violent Taliban.

7.12.2008 | Just Like Riding A Bike ... Yeah...
So I got my new bike today and decided to ride it to my office to see how long it would take. It took entirely too long with all of the traffic lights. It’s only five miles, but it took me nearly 30 minutes. It takes 15 minutes in the car. By the time I got to the office, I was completely exhausted from climbing the Mount Everest-sized hills. It also didn’t help that it was about 93...
7.10.2008 | Working from Home
Nic is upstairs supposedly taking a nap, but he’s singing to his music instead. I fear he may not take his nap, even after going to the pool today. Oh well, sometimes it just takes him awhile to fall asleep. Meanwhile, I’m downstairs working from home.
I've Had My Phil
toddwickersty:
Thirteen years ago tonight, the good ‘ol Grateful Dead played their final show at Soldier Field in Chicago. My last show was two weeks before at RFK Stadium. I have a lots of great memories of the 18 shows I attended from ‘89 to ‘95. Last night I caught Phil Lesh & Friends for the first time. Since Jerry died in 1995, I’ve seen Ratdog (three times), The Other Ones (twice), The...

My Redesigned Tumblr Page
If you visit my Tumblr page regularly, and judging from the Web stats, you are not, then you have probably noticed that I have changed the look and feel of the page. This is my first attempt at customizing my page. So far, I like the basic layout, but I plan on adding more functionality like some sidebars that will let me post Twitter feeds (I don’t like how Tumblr imports them now), some...

Dara … not Dana … pardon the typo
Wow! Dana Torres just recorded a personal best in the 100M freestyle … at age 41! Finished 2nd, advances to finals.
At home, watching the U.S. Olympic swimming trials on USA.
God bless my cable company … they’re not really cable, they’re Dish Network in disguise!
